Dear customers and friends,

Good afternoon from Kenshi of Shukado.

Finally, it seems that winter has gone and spring is here.
Plum trees are in full bloom now, which are almost one month later than usual.

I'm sorry that I couldn't issue newsletter last week.
It's been really hectic with preparation for the Art Fair Tokyo and next catalog.

Actually, I know it's too late for advertising, the art fair is being held from this Friday (30th March) to Sunday (1st April).
Last year, the devastating earthquake forced the delay of the scheduled date to July though, this year, it will be held as has happened in the past.

In this art fair, our gallery will display figure paintings by the modern artists such as Kaburaki Kiyokata and three contemporary artists; Ikenaga Yasunari, Abe Kiyoko, and Okamoto Toko.
Since all the paintings are tour de force, I know it is difficult for most of you to visit it during the exhibition though, please keep an eye on it!

You can see the information of our exhibition and the art fair from the following url:

Dear Customers and Friends,

Good afternoon from Kenshi of Shukado.
Even though it's already in March, it is still cold in Japan.
We can hardly wait for warm spring!

So in today's newsletter, ahead of the spring, I'd like to introduce you a hanging scroll depicting beautiful flowers.

Here painted are ten kinds of flowers from the four seasons such as plum tree, rose, and chrysanthemum.

The artist of this artwork is Tanomura Chokunyu, who was active from the end of the Edo period to the Meiji period.
For example, vein of leaves is truly precise and

What surprises us is his skill of description. For example, veins are so detailed, and geometric pattern is depicted on the white lotus flower.

Also, we should be surprised at the vitality radiating from those plants.
Like the peony adding color to the screen, just looking at it giving us energy.

This artwork was painted in 1849, that is to say, still in the Edo period.
And it is very rare that the painting preserves the beauty of colors.

Please feel free to contact me anytime if you are interested in this painting.
See you next week.

Sincerely yours,

Kenshi
